The Pull Pen is Full!

So the cornish cross are in the pen that is designed to be moved daily. They seem to be doing fine.  The first few nights were quite chilly so we did add heat (ceramic heat lamps) but in truth, we think it was just too hot. These can be just as difficult to regulate as the infrared heat lamps. We will pick up some terrarium heat lamps to help bring warmth, but not bake the poor birds before they are grown!

Sorry the photos of them in the pen are not very clear.  It's a hit and miss sun/rain/windy day and we have tarp around parts of it to protect them. We have the new through feeder in there. It can hold up to 20 pounds at one time, which is way more than we need at any given time, but we wanted more to ensure that they could all get too the feeder at the same time, more than how much feed it would hold. It is designed to feed about 40 to 50 birds at a time. It is super light weight and they can't bill the food out onto the ground like they LOVE to do. We threw some grit in too to help in the event they munch on any grass since I truly don't think they are smart enough (like our pullets/layers) to eat dirt, sand, and small rocks from the ground.

23 days old, they are eating about 3.5 ounces each per day (about 5# total).
